TropiCare sunscreen combats UV all year round

The visiting media from all corners of the globe may have believed that autumn temperatures and cloudy skies during the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show would render hats and sun protection unnecessary, but given the high UV index all year round in Queensland, they were grateful for the protection of TropiCare sunscreen.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Australia, with 80 per cent of all cancers diagnosed in Australia being skin cancer. Queensland has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology and Queensland Cancer Council, UV risks are very high in winter, particularly on and near the water.

Cancer Council Queensland recommends that people use sun protection whenever the UV index is three or above. Queensland experiences dangerously high levels of Ultraviolet Radiation (UVR) all year round and the UV index is almost always three or above, even during winter.

There is no correlation between the UV index and daytime temperature, meaning that in winter the temperature can be low but the UV index can still be high enough to cause skin damage. It is important therefore to remember to use sun protection even when the weather is cool.

While in the Southern states, the UV index sometimes falls below three during winter, this is not the case in Queensland and sun protection is required during the peak UV periods of 10am and 3pm all year round.

Cancer Council Queensland recommends that people protect themselves in five ways: Slip on sun protective clothing, Slop on SPF 30+ sunscreen, Slap on a broad-brimmed hat, Seek shade when outdoors, and Slide on sunglasses.

Accredited media, many from southern states and some from Europe, Asia and the UK, were glad of the complimentary sample size sachets, and full size roll on and tubes of TropiCare sunscreen, which the boat show team provided demonstrating its commitment to OH&S.

Made in Queensland for local conditions, TropiCare is 100% Australian owned and operated, offering a range of high quality, non greasy, outdoor skin care products formulated to provide maximum protection. Its range of sunscreens and zinc, After Sun Ice Cool Gel, Insect Repellent and All Seasons Lip Balm are made from the finest ingredients, easy to use, long-lasting, water resistant and invisible on the skin.
