Horizon to launch Aero 54 at Sanctuary Cove Boat Show

Horizon Yachts is aiming to increase its presence in the Australian market, thanks to a new sub-$2 million motor yacht which will officially debut at this year's Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, 24-27 May on Queensland's Gold Coast.

The Aero 54 E-series yacht will be priced from AU$1,345,000 and has been hailed as the ideal ‘entry boat’ for customers who previously might have considered the Horizon brand to be out of their price range.

Russell Wright of Horizon Motor Yachts Australia (HMYA) says he has already sold one Aero 54 to an Australian owner, and is confident the sporty 16.4-metre (54-foot) yacht will impress once it arrives in the country in February 2012.

'The Aero 54 is the first Horizon we’ve had priced below the $2 million mark,' said Russell. 'It’s very well equipped with IPS engines, joystick control, auto positioning, the lot. We’re expecting some really positive interest.'

Russell has already sold one Aero 54 to an Australian owner, and says HMYA have had significant input into the layout and fit out of the yacht.

'The first boat in Australia will have a fixed bimini on the flybridge with clears all round, adding to the usability of the deck in all weathers. We’ve also moved the galley forward in the main saloon rather than opt for a galley back design. We believe owners prefer to see the lounge area when they enter the yacht, and it’s more in keeping with the rest of the Horizon range.'

Horizon says the Aero 54 has been built with the latest green and smart technology, with a multifunctional layout and oversized windows for great all-round visibility and abundant natural light. Owners can choose from a range of different hull colours, including red, yellow and blue.

The Aero 54 is the first boat from Horizon to have a hull optimized especially for Volvo Penta’s IPS 900 engines, delivering a top speed of 34 knots and a comfortable cruising speed of an efficient 28 knots.

'During my visits to the factory I was impressed by how much attention Horizon gave to the performance side,' said Russell. 'For instance, during assembly every part of the boat, even the small things like interior trim, had a label on it giving its exact weight, so they knew exactly where the weight is going and what the balance of the boat will be.'

The VIP cabin in the bow enjoys natural light from windows on both sides and a skylight overhead, as well as recessed ceiling lighting.

The Aero 54 ships with a high tech GPS dynamic positioning system; a simple press of a button and the system holds your boat’s location and keeps it within a limited area, even in a current or windy conditions. Joystick control makes docking a breeze – simply move the joystick in the direction you want the boat to go, and the boat reacts to your directions.



The boat also comes with a hydraulic Hi/Lo swim platform, and practical transom trunk storage with easy lift opening for all the water activities and accessories.

The layout includes three cabins with two heads, with plenty of floor storage space. Horizon says the full beam master cabin offers 20 per cent more space than other yachts of the same size from competing brands. A walk-in closet and master head accompany the cabin, which compares in size to those usually found in a 70-foot vessel.

The main deck features a comfortable L-shape sofa with a functional storage cabinet, a compact lower helm station, a fully opened galley with a bright and light view, huge aft deck with table and seating. The lower deck includes the luxury VIP cabin with spacious head, and the guest cabin with Hi/Lo bunks.

The first Aero 54 will make its first appearance at the 2012 Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, 24-27 May on the Gold Coast.
