Staking a prominent claim on the marina this year is Les Binkin, Managing Director and developer of Marmong Point Marina, idyllically located on the shores of Lake Macquarie, just 60 nautical miles from Sydney Harbour. The aim, says Les, is to attract more boats to the NSW's newest marina berths on the state-of-the-art marina. 'The marina has been around for 50 years, but we have spent more than $8 million adding 85 new berths, taking it up to 245 berths, for boats up to 30m. We are not selling the berths. We are about 90% full, but have more berths to lease.' Binkin says he would consider the boat show a success in terms of ROI if he generates enough interest to take up a few more berths, 'and I would be happy if we get interest in casual berths over the next year'. Lake Macquarie is the perfect place to explore the east coast, says Les. 'It's safe, protected and offers plenty of bays and coves. The water is pristine and we have developed the shoreline as well, so there are restaurants, cafes, supermarkets all within walking distance of the water.' Onsite marine mechanics are approved dealers for Cummins, Volvo and Mercruiser, and there are shipwrights, trimmers, and marine electrical services available. Facilities include a 40 tonne travel lift, 34 hardstands, diesel and premium unleaded petrol, bait, ice and LPG refueling are available 7 days a week, and full detailing services, anti-fouling, wet blasting, chandlery, insurance, brokerage and a secure car park are also on-hand.
