The 2011 Sydney International Boat Show (July 28-August 1) set for its now traditional venue at Darling Harbour, attracts lovers of the great outdoors from all aspects, be it sailing, power cruising, water skiing and wake boarding and scuba diving. Of course, boats remain the primary attraction, but no Sydney show would be complete without the popular Nautilus Marine Insurance Fishing Clinic. The Boating Industry Association (BIA) of NSW, owner/organiser of the spectacular exhibition, has always known that upwards of 70 percent of all boats sold will at some stage ‘go fishing.’ Consequently, it comes as no surprise that among the many attractions presented within the Darling Harbour complex the Nautilus Marine Insurance Fishing Clinic remains a genuine headline act. Often playing to standing room-only audiences, the clinic is hosted by an array of experts in the various angling fields. This team of experts is captained by veteran angler Bruce Schumacher, who will take the audience through all the ‘whys and wherefores’ of bait, catching it, preserving it and how to present it. For those whose interest lies in game fishing, lure designer Peter Pakula will reveal all the secrets, while Tim Simpson will show the way to important fishing destinations and travel options. Rod builder Ian Miller talks about taking squid on lures, with another blue water expert, Phil Atkinson, discussing the holiday angler. For the boater, the man to listen to is Al McGlashin, who tells all one needs to know in taking big fish with an average rod while aboard an average-sized boat. And that’s not all; the youngsters will no doubt be lined up to hear Dee McElligott and the renowned Steve Starling, together with Jo Moyle-Reiter present the Kid’s Fishing Clinic. Steve will also reveal fishing with finesse and explain what’s new in soft plastics. Jo will also tell how to turn a ‘top end dream’ into reality and point out how you can ‘share the love’ by introducing others to the sport. Artificial reefs have been in the news lately and Heath Folpp will discuss this means of fisheries enhancement, while Charlotte Jenkins and Trevor Daley speak on fish habitats. As usual, the spectacular background to the clinic’s stage will be Brett Thompson’s massive Supertank and his ‘performing fish’. The entire program will be handled by one of Australia’s most experienced Masters of Ceremonies, none other than radio and television personality Mike Bailey. Anyone who has ever dropped a line in the water knows the Nautilus Marine Insurance Fishing Clinic is one of many ‘must visits’ while attending the Sydney International Boat Show.
