Sail-World.com : Safety at sea assured with the new SIMRAD MX535B Class A AIS System
Safety at sea assured with the new SIMRAD MX535B Class A AIS System

Simrad, a world leading brand in professional marine electronic solutions, owned by Navico, the world’s largest marine electronics company, has announced the arrival of a new IMO Type Approved Class A AIS solution, the Simrad MX535B.

Designed by a team with over 20 years in IMO Approved product development, the Simrad MX535B class A AIS system is built for the toughest of commercial marine environments with multiple configurations to suit the size and complexity of any vessel.

Safety at sea is greatly enhanced utilising AIS systems and the Simrad MX535B provides spontaneous ‘ship to ship’ or ‘ship to shore’ information through simple integration with Simrad MX510 and MX512 displays. The system provides an instant overview of marine traffic, with real time information easily accessible such as the manoeuvres of nearby ships and location of AIS enabled vessels in radar blind zones.

A standalone system is in operation when the MX535B AIS transponder is paired with the Simrad MX510 MKD display and Simrad AN156 GPS antenna. This set up provides the basic provision of AIS information that most vessels require.

However, should the operator requires more flexibility, an expanded system is enabled once the MX535B class A AIS is paired with the Simrad MX512 multi-port display, separate junction box and AN156 GPS antenna.

This expanded system allows for AIS and navigation features as well as connectivity to other on-board systems such as radar, ECDIS or VDR via the additional 8 NMEA serial ports.

The DGPS navigation functionality is achieved when the expanded system is connected to the Simrad MX521A DGPS Smart Antenna.

Fully IMO-compliant, the Simrad MX535B conforms to the IMO standards such as IMO MSC.74 (69) annex 3, IMO A.694 (17), MSC 112(73), MSC.191 (79), ITU-R M.1371-3, ITU-R M.825-3, ITU-R M.1084-3, IEC 61993-2(ED 1), IEC 61108-1(ED 2), IEC 60945(ED 4), IEC 61162-1, IEC 61162-2, and IEC 62288 Ed.1.

The Simrad MX535B is now available for purchase. For more information on the Simrad MX535B and the entire Professional Series visit pro.simrad-yachting.com.
