The question of whether to auction or sell will always spark debate, so what is the best way to market and sell a boat? The simple answer could be ‘what do you prefer?’ but what is really involved in getting the best outcome? The concept of selling is fairly straightforward, ask for a price and hope to get it or an offer somewhere near it – eventually. If you want to auction your boat, the process is somewhat different, but the opportunity exists to achieve more than you asked for. While a professional evaluation of a boat will determine true market value, often competing interests will push the price up. The auction system also offers a number of other benefits for a seller. An auction program will focus on marketing a boat for a limited period, hence attracting serious buyers during that time, rather than ‘tyre kickers’, those with more curiosity than cash. Conversely, a boat owner going to auction displays to the public that he or she has a genuine intention to sell and is not just testing the market. The seller and the auctioneer are in a dominant and controlling position, and the seller sets the terms on which he wishes to sell at auction. This avoids the situation of purchasers making offers subject to undesirable conditions. A finite period of intense marketing and advertising also alleviates a boat having to be maintained and presented for months and sometimes years in a bid to sell. Marine Auctions Principal, Adrian Seiffert, has more than 30 years in the auction industry and knows what works, and what doesn’t. 'We carry out a very aggressive and unique marketing strategy providing maximum exposure, in the shortest possible time frame. We do not wait for buyers to come to us. We proactively go to them. Our large and database and our mailing lists of potential buyers are the envy of many in the industry,' he said. An auction can also provide the catalyst to promote buyer interest. With this in mind Mr. Seiffert has brought the best of both ways to buy and sell boats at the Rivergate International Boat Show to be held at Rivergate Marina and Shipyard, Murarrie. More than 50 boats, new and used, and some unreserved will go under the hammer at 'The Special Event' auction on Sunday 7 October from 1pm. The pinnacle of this mega auction will be the offer for sale of the Kookaburra Queens 1 and 2, the iconic paddle wheelers that have plied the waters of the Brisbane River for 26 years. The mega auction will be an exciting climax to Brisbane’s only on water boat show, featuring vessels ranging from tinnies to super yachts, power and sail boats, leisure craft, marine products, accessories and numerous other suppliers to the industry. 'I am passionate about bringing the boating industry back to better days and this Boat Show offers the perfect platform to do that at a quality, purpose built marine venue, the Rivergate precinct.' Mr. Seiffert said. In addition to a host of exhibitors, both on and off the water, the 3 day Rivergate International Boat Show will have a family friendly flavor with food, fashion and fun for all. The Rivergate International Boat Show runs from Friday October 5th to Sunday October 7th from 9am to 5pm daily. Entry $10 adults. Children under 17 free. More at www.rivergateboatshow.com.au
