Swan celebrates sales success

Marina Mirage hosted a series of sales events and social function during Boat Show Week.
It’s been a busy and successful sales season for Swan Super Lines, boutique brokerage based at Bundall on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

All the planets have aligned, after a slow start to the year, says director, Ian Swan.

For a first time, it was very successful, says Swan. 'We promoted it in the Centre, through our databases and the Out of the Blue cocktail function we host annually and in local media. There was a steady flow of traffic, which included a lot of New Zealanders and people from interstate in town for Sanctuary Cove, the Jazz Festival and Magic Million Yearling Sales.

'There was a lot of activity at Marina Mirage at night, with people heading there to socialise. We ended up having a lot of night showings of boats, with restaurants sending down food and beverages for prospective buyers.'

SSL sold Flamingo Bay, the 38-metre ice-breaking rescue and exploration vessel, the Fairlline Squadron 65, both to Kiwis during the show.


Following the event, SSL cemented the deal on the Descarada 2, 31-metre Lloyds Ship in charter survey under the new AMSA national system. Then followed the sale of the 32-metre Dreamtime I.


Part of the SSL tender division involves selling new AB RIBs, selling the first just this week as tender to a local superyacht.

'AB RIBs are highly recognised in the world, especially the US,' explains Swan. 'The finish is exceptional, the maintenance and servicing are all handled on the Gold Coast by the agent here through Swan Super Lines. They range from 3.2m to 10m and come with various accessories. You can have them custom-designed and built to a degree. You can choose aluminium or fibreglass hulls, making them very versatile for sailing and powerboats.

'You can tailor your package for diving, fishing, day boat, adventure, skiing or tender transfers.'

SSL has just taken the advanced ultrasonic anti-fouling system currently in use by Riviera and Maritimo. 'It’s a low electronic system that destroys algae and prevents barnacles, and improves performance, reduces running costs and it’s environmentally friendly, suitable for almost all vessels including aluminium, steel, fibreglass and Kevlar. The important thing is, it extends the life of your anti-foul and best of all, Units start at $1,375.'

Swan observes that there has been a steady increase in enquiry for larger boats. 'Current interest as we see the market is vessels 10m to 30m and we notice a burst of activity after the national boats shows, particular Sydney.'

On the Gold Coast, the weather and ease of access to the boating lifestyle mean interstate buyers travel to the Gold Coast. 'On our sea trials, in beautiful spring weather, we are blessed with whales and dolphins accompanying us.'

Part of SSL’s recent success can be attributed to the team’s commitment to listening to buyers’ requirements and sellers’ instructions.

'We take the time to get to know our clients and work with them, however long it takes, to get the job done. It’s a lot more than ‘here’s your boat, sign here’. We’re here for the journey, even if that takes many months or years.

'While some other brokers may avoid complicated clients, we have become specialists with vessels in circumstances like death, divorce and administration – having been involved in several in the past seven years.'
