Pacific Boating, the membership alternative to ownership, is enjoying a surge of interest, thanks to its flexibility, availability and cost-effective entry into boating.
As director and founder, Phil Pitt explains: 'Pacific Boating offers people who are new to boating the opportunity to get in to it without the prohibitive costs and hassles often associated with boat ownership. Ongoing costs and depreciation are sometimes barriers to getting in to boating. We are a great alternative!'
Pitt, one of the original founders in 2006, says the recent Sydney International Boat Show, where Pacific Boating had a prominent position on the marina, was 'one of our best ever'.
'We doubled our sales record and had four times more sign ups than last year. It was a great show! We were also at the pavilion with a stand and brochures to capture the trailer boat side of the market as well.'
The benefits are many, as Pitt outlines. 'People who may own a boat, can sell their boat and continue the lifestyle, without the hassles. Instead of having a boat in one location, you have access to 15 boats in three locations which you can access on an unlimited basis. When you’re available, a boat is available.'
Pacific Boating has 15 boats in its fleet at three locations: Cabarita in Sydney’s inner west, Rose Bay and Church Point, Pittwater. The fleet consists of Sea Ray Sundancers from 29 to 44-feet and Pitt is poised to add a 52 in a few weeks.
Membership can be for a minimum of 12 months, at $895 per month.
'It’s like a gym or golf club membership. You have access to an online booking system and simply fill in your dates and you’re away.'
The company also offers training for members and is considering expanding its operations into Queensland in the near future.
'We have 400 members and we’re growing. Our concept has struck a chord with people who are time-poor and want to be involved in the boating lifestyle, without the negatives that can sometimes deter people from getting in to boating.'
