Capitalising on his experience across the gamut of marine electronics, Stuart Graham has founded his own venture, Digital Marine, a service to assist boat-owners in getting to know their onboard systems.

Graham offers group or one-on-one onboard tuition and calibration of vessel systems. From his observations and feeback from consumers at the scores of boat shows he has attended over the years, Graham believes there are plenty of owners who would love to better understand their expensive electronics packages.

“Having sold the leading brands of electronics, I often come across owners thirsty for knowledge about their electronic systems onboard their boats. They just need the confidence and competence to complement their investment.”

Digital Marine runs tuition for owners and skippers starting with the basics of coastal navigation using a paper chart. From there, the tuition covers the layout and components within the navigation system onboard each particular boat and their operation in isolation. The final piece of the puzzle is operating the system as a whole using all the various technologies together.

Advances in technology are also covered during the course so that owners have a clearer understanding of the ever changing marine electronics field.

The aims of the course are to make people feel more relaxed about pushing buttons on their systems, leading to more enjoyable and safer boating.

Digital Marine also offer calibration of systems for power and sail boats. This can have some great benefits in terms of fuel consumption for power boats when under autopilot, or faster passage making in cruising yachts to better results on the race track for the racing sailor.

Digital Marine has also been granted the Australian distributorship for the Scanstrut brand, a world-leading manufacturer of installation solutions for marine electronics.

“Digital Marine is thrilled to count Scanstrut as our very first product to distribute,' said Graham. 'Scanstrut has always been the leaders when it comes to choosing a radar or satellite mounting system and the addition of the new Scanpod display housings brings much wider appeal for their products within the Australian market.

“We believe the combination of Scanstrut’s innovative marine electronics installation products, our strong technical understanding and passion for exceeding customer expectations will lead to a bright future for the Scanstrut brand here in Australia.'

Tom Reed, Managing Director at Scanstrut said: “Digital Marine is a new company but Stuart brings a decade of marine electronics specific knowledge to this business and understands the levels of service demanded in our niche industry. We look forward to a great association and future as both our businesses evolve and expand.”
