BIA Victoria and Marine Safety Victoria (MSV) have strengthened their mutual commitment to safe and enjoyable boating in Victoria.

The two organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance their collaboration in boating safety activities over the next five years.

The MoU is a formal partnership between BIA Victoria and Marine Safety Victoria to work together on boating safety projects, with a particular focus on education within the recreational boating community.

It was signed by newly appointed MSV Director Di Bates and BIA President Gordon Howlett and General Manager Robert Coco.

Mr Coco said the MoU created a framework for BIA and MSV to work more closely and effectively on future boating safety initiatives.

“It means that all the basic elements of working together can now be taken as a given, which clears away a lot of preliminaries to pursue projects where our interests coincide.” he said.

“The MoU is part of the burgeoning relationship between our two organisations, which includes developing a sharper sense of our respective points of view on key safety issues.”

Di Bates said the MoU formalised MSV’s close, long-term partnership with BIA Victoria.

“It establishes the groundwork for effective, efficient collaboration,” she said.

“This ensures we can work cohesively on projects to ensure that government priorities are well understood and that industry is consulted on issues that may affect the way in which it conducts its business.

“It builds on the excellent relationships MSV already enjoys with BIA Victoria.”
